Book Review: Journeys of a Lifetime

Do you have a travel bucket list? I do, but it’s non-specific. It would be cool to go to see a baseball game in every major league ballpark. I’d love to do one of many running vacations that are out there. It would be awesome to go to Alsace, France and read the newspaper there in both French and German. I could certainly use some help in determining travel ideas. I was excited to be able to review a book with all kinds of awesome trip ideas.

Journeys of a Lifetime, published by National Geographic is gorgeous. The book itself is giftable, and would look amazing on a coffee table, but it’s more than just a pretty coffee table book. It’s a book filled with dreams. As I flip through the pages, destination after destination invite me to dream about what it would be like to take that particular trip.

Each journey gets a page, and there’s a photograph and a map. An overview of the trip is on each page as well as highlights from the trip, notes about when to go, and notes about how to book the trip. Trips are grouped by type. There 9 sections:

  1. Across Water
  2. By Road
  3. By Rail
  4. On Foot
  5. In Search of Culture
  6. In Gourmet Heaven
  7. Into the Action
  8. Up and Away
  9. In Their Footsteps

So now, I want to add Scotland’s Whiskey Trails, Malbec in Mendoza, and “Travels with a Donkey” – a walking trip that traces the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson through France’s wilderness.
