Revel Wine Club Review

Revel Wine Club is a wine club that prides itself on its affordability and customers’ ability to customize their selections. I was offered the opportunity to try out a month’s box in exchange for an honest review, and I’m glad I did. This, so far is my favorite subscription service for wine in terms of value.  I received a box with four wines – two reds and two whites to sample.

Reviewing Revel’s Wines

In the shipment, we received the 2016 Drake Hudson Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Reata Pinot Noir, 2014 Whiplash Zinfandel, and 2014 Shadowland Riesling. Not only did we enjoy all four wines, but we discovered over the course of the following days that the flavors of the wines continued to develop – in a good way – after opening.

2016 Drake Hudson Sauvignon Blanc2016 Drake Hudson Sauvignon Blanc ($10), Australia

This wine had a bit of a barrel nose as well as hints of anisette or licorice.  It also smelled buttery and oily. Upon tasting this wine, it was sour and had citrus and peach notes. It seems to be a versatile wine and was really nice.
2013 Reata Pinot Noir

2013 Reata Pinot Noir ($22) Three County, California

This wine was also quite nice. It was quite complex with a good amount of complexity to it. It was heavy bodied, and had hints of raspberries and plums. It was very smooth. It also had a good amount of spice to it, and would stand up well to a variety of meals.

2014 Whiplash Zinfandel2014 Whiplash Zinfandel ($13) Lodi, California

This wine was your standard, decent, Zinfandel. It had the cigar box qualities that makes me love a good Zin. I could detect sour cherries and dark berries as well. This wine is one of the ones that really developed with aeration. It was definitely finely crafted.

2014 Shadowland Riesling2014 Shadowland Riesling ($13) Washington

It’s really difficult to compete with Chateau St. Michelle’s Riesling wines, so there was a lot of pre-conceived notions of what makes a good Riesling going into our judgments of this one. It had flavors of granny smith apples, pears, and white pepper. Later, I also detected peach and apricot flavors. It was a dryer Riesling. It really is a nice accompaniment to cheddar cheese.

The Verdict on Revel Wine

Overall, Revel Wine Club’s selections were very nice. The total retail value of all four wines was $58. At $52 shipped, that’s a good value for what you’re getting. The wines all tasted like ones we would have enjoyed at Creekside Cellars in California when we used to frequent their weekend tastings. In all, it’s definitely a club worth subscribing to. With the special below, you can get an amazing value – 4 bottles of wine for just $32!
