My kids love to learn how to do various things, and they love to help. That’s why when I was presented with the opportunity to review Kidstir, a monthly cooking subscription kit for kids, I was happy to do so. I received a three month subscription to the club in exchange for an honest review.
About Kidstir
Once a month, you receive a Kidstir kit. The kit includes a grocery list, 3 recipes, some kitchen tools for making the recipes, and accompanying activities. Everything is kid-friendly, though younger kids will need help and supervision with any cooking on the stove or in the oven. The three kits I received were:
- Snack Happy – This box contained 3 recipes for snacks: Kale chips, cheddar fish crackers, and animal crackers. It also included cutters for the fish crackers and animal crackers as well as activity sheets.
- Summer Sips – This box contained 3 recipes for beverages: A purple smoothie, a s’more shake, and a summer drink using watermelon. It also included straw toppers, an ice cream scooper, a veggie peeler, and activity pages.
- Sandwich Shop – The three recipes for sandwiches were: A wrap sandwich cut into slices to make pinwheels, a turkey club sub, and an egg salad sandwich. The tools included were a sandwich spreader and a puzzle shaped cutter for the sandwich. It too included activity pages.
A monthly subscription to Kidstir costs $15.95 per month; prepaid 12 month subscriptions bring the cost down to $12.95 per month, and customers get a cookbook binder.
What We Thought of Kidstir
Oh my goodness! This is a fun subscription. While my little kitchen helpers are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2, they had a lot of fun doing the mixing and the cutting out of shapes.
What I like about this subscription kit is that it includes educational information about cooking, which is good for our homeschool. You also get a monthly newsletter with links to more recipes and further activities to make more use of the kit. In all, we really enjoyed it, and I’d like to include a further subscription to it for the kids.
The only downside is that there seems to only be a set number of kits – so once you run out a 12-month subscription, you wind up with all the kits they have to offer. I’d love it if they would continue to add new kits to their subscription line.
