There are only 7 1/2 weeks until my due date. That means I have a lot to do. I’m hoping to share some information about Kansas wineries that I’ve learned while researching. Yes, there are wineries in Kansas! I’m looking forward to learning more about them when I can enjoy wine again. In the meantime, I’ve been sewing a lot. In fact, I have another big announcement you should stay tuned for at the end of this post. Meanwhile, I’m here to talk about my newest addiction: Sewing the Easy A-Line Skirt by Dandelions n’ Dungarees. This is a really simple pattern – and it’s a great girls’ sewing pattern for beginners. I made THREE of these, and I have plans to make two more for my girl – one with a teal corduroy and one with a purple with white polka dots cotton. These are going to be great with tights underneath as we roll into fall.
I was a tester for this pattern, so in exchange for honest feedback, I did receive a free copy of the pattern. Instead of just making one version of this skirt, I wound up making three versions. You can make the skirt out of knit or woven fabrics, and there’s an option for modesty knit shorts sewn in underneath – Two of the skirts I made have the shorts underneath, the blue skirt does not. I love when patterns have this option available, since it allows my very active gal to run around a bunch. I tested a size 18 months which fit my 22 1/2 month old really well.
The skirts – even with shorts underneath – sew up quickly. I think this is part of why I’m so addicted to making these! It’s one of those great staple type skirts that work well with a variety of different tops, and in a variety of different fabrics. You can even embellish them with applique if you choose (I really want to learn how to do free motion applique.) They’re versatile, and right now, sewing 8 months pregnant, I LOVE anything that’s quick and where I can get a lot of mileage. I really want a version of this skirt for adults, because soon, I will need something to wear post-baby. The skirt is a great stash-buster. It takes relatively little fabric so it’s great for those smaller pieces you’ve got sitting around (and rumor has it, a version is coming out for dolls), and it’s one of those things you can sew up in the time it takes a toddler to nap. I actually sewed the blue version while I was waiting for an updates restart on my computer and the pink with white polka dots version while I was waiting for my Internet to restart.
