New Year, New Goals (Dare I Call Them Resolutions?)

I don’t really make resolutions, per sae, instead, I make goals, periodically check out those goals, and then see how I’m doing with regard to those goals. Wining Husband says he once made a resolution to never make a resolution again. I’m not quite that hardcore. I just don’t let the new year limit me to goal setting.

That being said, I do have some goals for this year that I’d really like to accomplish. I’m looking for an accountability partner to check in with on a weekly basis (twice a week) who also has goals she’d like to stay on target with, so if you’re interested, please comment on this post! I feel like I spent so much of 2014 just kind of wandering through the forest – and I’d like to be more on target with things this year.

 So…without further ado, my goals.

1. I will read 52 books this year. We have a lot of books. They should be read. I’m currently reading Prep: A Novel (affiliate link) by Curtis Sittenfeld.  The book is really great so far. I plan to finish it today and tomorrow.

2. I’m going to take the 2015 Sew Your Own Wardrobe for a year challenge. I’ve already started sewing pieces for my wardrobe, and I plan to continue. I have some really cute things in mind.  I’ll also be following along with Colette’s Wardrobe Architect to pick up some great tips on building a fabulous wardrobe. It should be a lot of fun.

3.  To start things off, I’m going to be doing a lot of sewing. I am all caught up in the Scientific Seamstress Sew-Along. She’s doing a “Just For Me January” with a new challenge each week. The first week, ending today, is “Casual and Chic. I also plan on participating in other sewalongs. It should be a lot of fun, and it should help move me toward goal #2.

4. I want to be more active this year and drop some weight. I wanted to train for a triathlon last year…but postpartum depression kind of ran that all over. This year, baby steps. I’ll start out with being active 30 minutes a day at least 3 days a week. That might sound like not so much…but it’s a start.

5. I will post more.

6. I want to start baking my own bread. Bread is expensive. Making bread takes time, but it’s far less expensive – and it tastes so much better. I used to make my own bread all the time. This is my favorite recipe for it : Cooking Light’s Whole Wheat Bread with Caraway and Anise.

7. I’m going to come up with my own knitting/crochet challenge. I have some older books, I just have to decide which I will use. I’m actually thinking about doing this and expanding it to crafts. It might be a lot of fun!

8. I want this to be the year I finally finish writing Night Song. I also want to get at least one short story published this year.

9. I want to share more wine pairing menus with you here on this blog. I’ll take a wine & create a menu to accompany it.

I think that covers it, at least for now. Do you have craft/knitting/crochet books that you’ve found handy? Are there classics that I should be aware of? What are your favorite bread recipes? Please share them in the comments! I’d love to get some ideas!
