Why I Run

Theme Song: “Run Baby Run” by Sheryl Crow

So, today is National Running Day. I’m not currently able to run, and I won’t be until I get clearance from a doctor that it’s okay to start up again. I miss it. Running is such a freeing experience. Not only does it help my health and my moods and me to feel active, but it also allows me time to think about what’s going on in the world around me. It helps me to process my thoughts.

Since I haven’t been able to run, it’s been rough. I miss running! Some days I feel like my feet may run on their own and leave the rest of my body behind. Running became part of my life. I’m hoping that later this year I’ll be able to participate in a 5K or two! I like being outside and feeling the air around me. It’s a lot of fun, and a lot of my friends are runners.

I run because it helps me to combat my anxiety. If my brain starts racing, moving my feet helps me to calm that anxiety. I’m able to better focus on the tasks I have for the day. It helps me to be a better writer, mom, and partner.

There are many reasons for running, is one of them. But also, I really like the sense of accomplishment it gives me to complete the mileage I set out to cover.

Why do you run?
